Nancy Edmunds Hannah Award in Gerontology

This award was established by Nancy Edmunds Hannah and Walter Lewis Hannah, Jr. to honor their mother, Nancy Edmunds Hannah, Class of 1946. This fund is intended to aid students who are employees of a continuing care community with a memory care unit, with a preference for a student interested in working with older persons with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

The Eloise Ward Phelps ’31 Graduate Award in Gerontology

This award was established in 2012 by Dr. Kathryn L. Lovell and Dr. Robert W. Phelps to honor their mother, Eloise W. Phelps, ’31. This fund is intended to aid students who may need assitance in pursuing advanced study, so that they can work to develop programs to aid in understanding, and to improve the experiences of the elderly. This fund is administered by the Director of the Gerontology Program.

The George and Beatrice Goldman Fisher Gerontology Doctoral Dissertation Award

Beatrice Goldman Fisher was a member of the Class of 1942 of Woman’s College. This award was established by the Fishers to be awarded to a doctoral student in any field of study at UNCG provided that his or her research relates to Gerontology and the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly. The Graduate School announces a ‘call’ for nominations of outstanding doctoral dissertations in the field of gerontology each year. Awardees are selected from among the dissertations nominated.

Beatrice Goldman Fisher was a member of the Class of 1942 of Woman’s College. This award was established by the Fishers to be awarded to a master’s degree student in any field of study at UNCG provided that his or her research relates to Gerontology and the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly. The Graduate School announces a ‘call’ for nominations of outstanding master’s theses in the field of gerontology each year. Awardees are selected from among the theses nominated.
