Title: The Role of Physical Activity in Chronic Disease Prevention

When and Where :
Monday, April 6 at 4pm in the Elliot University Center Auditorium.

Abstract:
There is a large body of data showing that physical activity prevents premature mortality and reduces the risks of many chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. In recent years, both researchers and the public have asked these questions related to the dose of physical activity needed for health: ‘how little is too little?’ and ‘how much is too much?’ In the 2015 Lawther Lecture, Dr. Lee will discuss why these questions have been raised and what the latest studies reveal. Dr. Lee’s main research interest is in the role of physical activity in promoting health and preventing chronic disease. This extends to characteristics associated with a physically active way of life, such as the maintenance of ideal body weight. She also is concerned with issues related to women’s health.
