What is the Lawther Lecture

The Lawther Lecture honors Ethel Martus Lawther who tirelessly served the Woman’s College of The University of North Carolina (UNC Greensboro) for 43 years.

The lecture was initiated in 1975, to honor Dean Lawther’s retirement. In 1991, Ms. Maxine Forrest Allen  established the Ethel Martus Lawther Fund to help to support this event.

The Dean’s Lecture series, also supported by the Lawther Fund, was initiated in 2016, by Dean Celia Hooper.
