Dr. Carmen Mónico delivered two presentations at the National Latino Social Work Organization (LSWO) Latinx Social Work Conference held at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) on April 6-9, 2022.
Social work faculty, social work students, and allied human service professionals/faculty join this conference, which is a unique space for the Latinx social work community. The first workshop presented is titled, Conditions of Immigrants in U.S. Government Detention and Custody during COVID-19, which was based on research with service providers of immigrants in the U.S. Dr. Mónico conducted this research with students, including Neema Olagbemiro, a PhD student of the joint program.
Dr. Mónico presented another workshop titled, The Experience of Guatemalan Deportees and Their Intentions to Remigrate to the U.S. This presentation is part of the 9-month tenure that Dr. Mónico is completing as an RTI University Scholar during the 2021-2022 school year, which focuses on analyzing, interpreting and writing the results of the Guatemalan Deportee Longitudinal Repatriation Study led by Dr. Wayne Pitts of RTI International.
