Dr. Anna Maria Siega-Riz received an MS in Food, Nutrition, and Food Service Management from the University of North Carolina Greensboro (1983) and a PhD in Nutrition from the Gillings School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1993).
She currently serves as Professor and Dean of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences at University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Prior to that, she served as Professor and Associate Dean of Research at the University of Virginia School of Nursing, and as Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Gillings School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
She is a national expert on the impact of maternal nutrition on birth and child health outcomes and has served on numerous federal committees including chairing the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s committee on Nutrition During Pregnancy and Lactation. In 2020 she was appointed to the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences. She has over 250 publications and over 77,000 citations.
